About Seacoast Stories

A new kind of local media brand.

Seacoast Stories is a rapidly growing modern independent media company telling the stories of the people and businesses that make New Hampshire and Maine special.

Through compelling interviews, short-form video, breaking news, community events, and original storytelling, we're building a new kind of local media brand — one that informs, entertains, sparks conversation, and brings people together.

We're passionate about small businesses, curious about the people around us, and committed to telling stories that go deeper than the surface. We're building something ambitious that's never been done before, and we're looking for a talented, creative, and driven person to help take it to the next level.

The Role

We're looking for a Social Media Director to lead the day-to-day execution and continued growth of Seacoast Stories across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and emerging platforms.

This is a hands-on, highly creative role for someone who lives and breathes social media. You'll be responsible for turning raw footage, interviews, local happenings, breaking news, sponsored content (and maybe even espresso martini tastings) into engaging stories that capture attention and build a loyal audience.

You'll work across the entire content process: identifying opportunities, directing shoots, capturing footage, editing videos, designing graphics, publishing and scheduling content, and analyzing performance. You'll help shape how Seacoast Stories looks, sounds, and connects with its audience.

We're looking for someone who understands that great social media isn't just about chasing views. It's about understanding people, finding the most compelling angle, and telling stories that make someone stop scrolling — and care enough to keep watching.

The ideal candidate is equal parts storyteller, videographer, editor, creative strategist, and social media obsessive.

Key Responsibilities

01Social Media Strategy & Growth

  • Lead the daily publishing strategy across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and other relevant platforms, executing multiple posts per day seven days per week.
  • Grow Seacoast Stories' following, reach, engagement, and overall brand awareness through consistent, high-quality content.
  • Develop creative strategies to reach underserved audiences, particularly men and adults ages 18–25.
  • Stay on top of platform algorithms, emerging trends, new features, and evolving content formats.
  • Analyze performance metrics and audience behavior to understand what's working, identify opportunities, and continually improve results.
  • Experiment with new approaches to increase watch time, retention, shares, saves, comments, and meaningful audience engagement.

02Videography & Content Production

  • Serve as the primary videographer for Seacoast Stories events, vlogs, sponsored content, social media interviews, breaking news, and other on-location assignments.
  • Direct and execute social media shoots, including developing concepts, guiding on-camera talent, and capturing the footage needed to tell a compelling story.
  • Gather extensive footage and identify the essential moments, strongest quotes, and most compelling visuals to create concise, engaging content.
  • Occasionally appear on camera when a story, format, or creative concept calls for it.
  • Work quickly and independently in the field, adapting to unexpected opportunities and developing stories in real time.
  • Maintain a consistent visual identity and high production standard across all content.

03Editing, Design & Storytelling

  • Edit short-form videos optimized for each platform, with strong hooks, thoughtful pacing, compelling captions, and clean visual execution.
  • Create clean, visually appealing thumbnails and cover images that make Seacoast Stories' social feeds immediately recognizable and encourage viewers to stop scrolling.
  • Design static graphics for breaking news, podcast guest announcements, community updates, and other editorial content.
  • Develop a strong understanding of how visuals, sound, music, text, and pacing work together to hold attention.
  • Identify the deeper story within an interview, event, or news development rather than settling for surface-level coverage.
  • Maintain editorial accuracy, attention to detail, and consistency in tone, branding, and presentation.

04Content Calendar & Sponsor Management

  • Own and maintain the social media content calendar, ensuring consistent publishing and effective coordination across platforms.
  • Coordinate directly with sponsors to plan content, communicate timelines, and execute agreed-upon deliverables.
  • Ensure all sponsored obligations are fulfilled accurately, professionally, and on schedule.
  • Collaborate with the Seacoast Stories team to develop creative concepts that serve both sponsor objectives and audience interests.
  • Attend Seacoast Stories events and capture content that extends their reach and impact beyond the event itself.

05Community & Brand Development

  • Develop a deep understanding of the Seacoast community, its people, local businesses, and emerging stories.
  • Help establish Seacoast Stories as a trusted, recognizable, and indispensable local media brand.
  • Identify compelling people, businesses, trends, and community developments that deserve more attention.
  • Build relationships with local business owners, community members, and other potential collaborators.
  • Bring new ideas, take creative initiative, and actively contribute to the company's continued growth.

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications

  • At least two years of experience managing social media for a brand, business, organization, or your own established social media presence.
  • A genuine obsession with creating social media content and keeping up with platform algorithms, trends, and emerging formats.
  • Strong working knowledge of social media editing and design tools, including Adobe Premiere Pro, Canva, or comparable programs.
  • Hands-on experience shooting and editing high-quality short-form video.
  • Excellent storytelling instincts, with a strong eye for compelling visuals and an ear for engaging dialogue, sound bites, and natural conversation.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, from captions and graphics to branding, deadlines, and sponsor deliverables.
  • The ability to work quickly, manage competing priorities, and make sound creative decisions under tight deadlines.
  • Willingness and availability to work nights and weekends as needed for events, breaking news, and media production.
  • A genuine love for the Seacoast region and a passion for its people, communities, and small businesses.
  • The ability to work independently, take ownership of projects, and thrive in a fast-moving environment.
  • A strong desire to grow professionally alongside an ambitious, rapidly expanding media company.

Additional expectations

  • Must live locally in the Seacoast region of New Hampshire or Southern Maine.
  • Must be comfortable occasionally appearing on camera.
  • Must be passionate about small businesses and independent local media.
  • Must be eager to experiment, learn, adapt, and push creative boundaries.
  • AI-generated content will not be permitted. We believe in authentic, human-driven storytelling and original creative work.

A college degree is not required. We care more about your skills, creativity, work ethic, portfolio, and ability to tell a great story than where you went to school.

What Success Looks Like

The person in this role will help Seacoast Stories:

  • Build a larger, more engaged, and more diverse audience across platforms.
  • Consistently publish compelling content that people actively seek out and share.
  • Develop a recognizable visual identity and a high standard of video and graphic production.
  • Reach new audiences, particularly men and younger adults.
  • Tell more meaningful stories about the people and businesses that make the Seacoast unique.
  • Deliver exceptional value to sponsors while protecting the trust of our audience.
  • Establish a repeatable, organized, and sustainable content production operation that can scale with the business.

Compensation & Position Details

  • Salary: $55,000–$75,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Employment type: Full-time.
  • Location: Must be based in New Hampshire's Seacoast region or Southern Maine, with regular on-location production throughout the region.
  • Schedule: Flexible as production demands allow, with regular availability for nights, weekends, events, and time-sensitive news coverage.
  • Education: No college degree required.
