In a city where local businesses help define the rhythm of downtown life, Cup of Joe is entering a new chapter.
After eight years serving coffee by day and cocktails by night just steps away from its longtime home, the beloved Portsmouth café and bar officially opened its doors today at a new location at 48 Market Street — a larger, more ambitious space that co-owner Joanna Kelley hopes will allow the business to become the fullest version of what it has always been: a gathering place built around community.
“We knew for a while that we were outgrowing our old space,” Kelley told Seacoast Stories today in an interview inside the newly renovated storefront, which occupies part of the former Portsmouth Brewery property. “If we were going to move locations, we wanted to purchase a building of our own.”
